The Living Desert

By far the highlight of our visit in Broken Hill so far has been the Living Desert and Sculptures. About 12km out of town is a 2400ha reserve that has some of the most unique flora and fauna in the region. A few kilometres into the park is a hill with 12 sandstone sculptures, created in 1993 by a group of artists from all over the world.

We went out there late in the morning and then again at dusk. The desert and the sculptures were strikingly beautiful in the late morning light, but at dusk were completely different, and even more beautiful. We could have spent hours just looking at the changing landscape if it wasn't so breathtakingly cold. I found it hard to sort through and pick my favourite photos, but here's a small selection.

Beautiful photos Barb ... but it's easy to see how cold it is ... you in your hoodie will do it every time!

And I had a puffer jacket under that and a jumper under that and a tee shirt under that. The desert gets cold in winter 🥶
