This is our checklist, or maybe 'mantra' is a better word, to guide us along the way:
Hardly any plastic! "Why no plastic?" I hear you ask. Well, that would be the ideal, but we have to eat, and unfortunately supermarket provisions are often packaged in plastic. But where we can control it, we vow to avoid plastic at all costs. Plastic bad.
Leave a campsite/beach/river/park etc cleaner than we found it. That's where Mr Sticky will come in handy. More about the Stick Man later.
Buy local and eat your greens. This is a bit dependent on our access to fresh local produce, but where possible, buy food that hasn't been packed on a truck and carted half way around the country. And don't waste any. As my mother used to say, eat your peas there are starving kids in Africa. Unfortunately, there are some pretty hungry kids here in Australia too, but knowing this still won't make me eat peas. Lucky for me I now have the freedom to avoid them at all costs and select greens that I'll happily eat and not secretly feed to the dog (see point 5 below).
Recycle, recycle, recycle. Our specially colour-coded bins (yet to be purchased and sans plastic bin liners) will help to keep our rubbish sorted and ready to deposit into designated council bins when we come across them.
This is one for the Labradors: Keep rear-end emissions to a minimum - that gas has to be deadly!
I'm sure we'll add to the checklist as we go - and of course we welcome any other suggestions. #ozharvest
