Queensland

After finally escaping Noosa Hospital last week, we bid an emotional farewell to our beautiful extended family and made our way down the terrifying M1 towards the Gold Coast hinterland town of Canungra. The Wangerriburra people are the traditional custodians of the land around Canungra.

This is our last stop in Queensland and after travelling the state for 167 days it'll be strange to be back in NSW just a few short weeks away from our arrival back in Canberra. People have asked what's been our favourite place, but working that out will take a bit of trawling through photos and blog memories. And really, we've only just scratched the surface of this vast, beautiful and diverse part of the country, so we might leave favourite places for another day.

Instead we've had a family conference and come up with a list of things we will and won't miss about Queensland.

We'll miss:

  • Cane fields and cane trains

  • Tropical rainforests

  • Being called "love" by people at least five decades younger

  • Corbett's IGAs

  • Endless sunshine and warm weather

  • White beaches and clear blue seas

  • An abundance of fresh seafood

  • Outback sunsets

  • Cassowaries

  • Our family and the friends we've made along the way

  • Lots more that we won't realise until we're gone.

We won't miss:

  • The Bruce Highway

  • Midges, mosquitoes, flying ants, crawling ants, March flies and all other bitey bugs

  • Cane toads

  • Midges

  • Road trains

  • Australian Eastern Standard Time (i.e dawn at stupid o'clock)

  • Croc-inhabited beaches and waterways

  • Midges.

Here's a few photos of the last couple of days in and around the Gold Coast. Tomorrow we're back to daylight saving and continue our adventures along the beautiful, slightly soggy, north coast of NSW.

Thanks! Somehow I managed to completely deplete Loretta’s batteries overnight so we’re not going anywhere until the sun charges them up enough to get the roof down! Roomie error and lesson #473 😕

Happy to read you made it through to the Goldie. Was it very stressful on the Bruce? Im so glad you and the boys are reunited, Im sure everything seems better than hospital! Im really enjoying my time on the coast, and looking forward to catching up with you again in the New Year. Love the pics!

Yes. Very sad to say goodbye to the family but good to be on the road again. The Bruce Highway is horrendous but we got here with your good instructions and a little guidance from Siri. More busy highways between here and home so we just have to suck it up. I hope we can catch up on the road somewhere next year ❤️

There’s probably a few more that could go on the list but discretion wins out 🙄
