We've spent a relaxing six days at the NSW south coast village of Kioloa, in Yumi country. For the past 22 years we've gathered here with good friends to enjoy a seaside break filled with fun and laughter and happy times.
Several members of the Kioloa gang were in nappies when they started coming here, and are now young adults who still get a kick out of tagging along with the folks and putting up with our silly games.
Kioloa weekends are all about the beach, card games, trivia quizzes and late night slightly tipsy sing-alongs. If you can call that singing.
Kioloa is also about food. There've been curry nights, Mexican nights, Italian nights, Spanish nights, BBQ nights, salad explosions, gourmet desserts, and on one occasion, a slightly soggy birthday cake. Always excellent fare and usually sufficient to feed the Olympic weight-lifting team.
And Kioloa is about the dogs. This is Juddy's 11th Kioloa and Stanley's first. There have been many K9 mishaps that we continue to laugh about years later. Like the time Lucy got her head stuck between the balcony rails. Twice. Or the time Peggy sat on the campfire and set fire to her bum. There was the time Tilly took off into the ashes of the recently burnt bush, and when Ella climbed up on the window sill and swung like Tarzan on the curtains.
But most of all, Kioloa is about laughter and friendship. We all look forward to this weekend every year, and hope that the young-uns will continue to come with their families for as long as there's a beach and the rest of us still have enough marbles to calculate our 500 scores.
Today we somehow managed to convince all the doggos to pose for a photo. From left to right they are: Tilly; Cody; Juddy; Ella; Winnie; Sunny: Stanley; and Jesse. Coco and Max couldn't make it this year, through no fault of their own.
Thanks to some unusually beautiful sunny and calm weather, we were also be dust off Phil-E-Buster the Drone to take a photo of almost the whole gang. Thanks all for another epic Kioloa. See you next year!
What fun! Love the photos too 📸
What a great weekend Barb! You’ll need a Nana Nap or two after it all! Impressed by your drone photography skills too!
