For the past three days we’ve been camped at Mossman, just a short distance inland from Port Douglas. We’re right on the edge of Julaymba - the Daintree Rainforest - which has been home to the Kuku Yalanji people for tens of thousands of years.
Today I visited Mossman Gorge, inside the world heritage listed part of the Daintree, while the Labs had a snooze. I’d been to the Daintree before but had forgotten how beautiful it is. The Kuku Yalanji cultural centre does a fantastic job managing the constant stream of tourists through the rainforest. There are a couple of walking circuits that allow visitors to experience the rainforest without damaging the delicate ecosystem. There’s also a pristine swimming hole for those wanting to cool off. I wasn’t among them.
Here are my favourite photos of today’s hike, as well as some snaps of Mossman and Port Douglas, where the other half live.
