Cunnamulla

After a wet, cold and gloomy overnight stay in Bourke it was good to finally cross the border and arrive in Queensland yesterday. Our destination was Cunnamulla, where the traditional owners of the land are the Kunja people. We knew we were in the Sunshine State when we saw our fellow travellers in tee shirts and shorts. Here was the warm weather and sunshine we'd been chasing since our journey began back in April. Wooohooo!

Then it got dark. And the power went off. And the three of us spent the night huddled around one little hot water bottle, listening to the hum of our neighbours' generators with a mix of envy and irritation. I slept in my beanie and the Labs slept on top of me. We were scheduled to stay three nights in Cunnamulla, which seemed like a nice little town (and a vast improvement over Bourke), but the power was still off when we creaked out of bed this morning so we made an executive decision to save Cunnamulla for another time.

Before we left we decided to stretch our paws on the sand hills that are one of the town's attractions. The Labs had a great time bounding up and down the dunes and I had a chance to test the flexibility of my new titanium knee. It seemed to pass the test.

We're now relaxing in Charleville, where the Bidjara people are the traditional owners of the land, and where there is both electricity and sunshine. Although I think I just heard raindrops plinking on the roof...

Glad you’ve found something warmer than minis something! We’ve had snow in the Nation’s Capital today.
