We’ve made it to the coast. Cairns, in fact, where the Gimuy-walubarra yidi people are the traditional custodians of the land and waters.
After taking care of a few admin things (as you do when you hit the big smoke) I decided to let the Labs cool off with a refreshing swim. I Googled “dog friendly beaches” and found Yorkey’s Knob. No sniggering.
It got rave reviews and it seemed Yorkey’s would be as good as any other knob so we plugged the address into the GPS and headed off.
We found a lovely looking beach and a cliff we assumed was the knob. Unfortunately we also found a few “dogs on lead”, “dogs prohibited” and other offensive signs. So much for Google.
The Labs had a bit of a tantrum, having come so tantalisingly close to a beach swim, but I managed to convince them that Freshwater Creek at the back of our caravan park would be a better option.
We're really pleased that the K9s got to swim! And not get eaten by pesky crocs!
