We've spend the last couple of days in the small town of Mitchell, where the Gunggari people are the traditional owners of the land. The three of us were very excited to be reunited with our good mates, Paddy and his human companion Chris, who've come all the way from freezing Canberra to hang out with us for a few days. We last set eyes on these two in Echuca when they headed back to Canberra and we started our solo journey.
Mitchell is like so many small towns we've passed through. The council is clearly trying to smarten up the main street, with several interesting mosaics, sculptures and seating. But the boarded-up shopfronts and run-down side streets are a tell tale sign that the town's seen better days. I reckon the grey nomad population this weekend is probably greater than the town's resident numbers. But it's a nice enough little place, right on the Maranoa River, which the Labs added to Stanley's list of "Rivers I have Swum In". Another box ticked. Mitchell also has a small artesian spa, which I indulged in while Auntie Chris kindly minded the Labs.
It's been great to have some human company and good to see Paddy and Stanley pick up where they left off.
Lovely to see you all together and warm. That spa is great isn’t it?
