This is where we introduce Phil.E.Buster the Drone. Phil (for short) has the role of capturing our travels from a perspective my iPhone can't achieve. In this case, a few metres above the water in a small stretch of the Murray.
With a total length of 2520km stretching from the Kosciusko National Park to Goolwa in SA, the Murry is the third longest navigable river in the world behind the Amazon and the Nile. Pretty impressive. And when combined with the Darling River the Murray-Darling basin - Australia's "food bowl" - is a pretty important environmental, cultural and economic system of interconnected rivers and lakes.
Here in Echuca we've experienced just a small bit of the Mighty Murray. Our paddle steamer cruise provided a bit of insight into the early importance of the river in shifting freight around NSW, Victoria and South Australia.
After a couple of short, tentative test flights, I plucked up the courage to send Phil to capture a view of the Murray from over the water. It was a little scary, especially when the birds got a bit angry with her, so it was a short flight. And the footage is hardly worthy of an Oscar, but hopefully as I become more confident about not crashing Phil into a tree, the images will improve.
I think it's great video Barb ... well done! Looking forward to the more adventurous footage now that you can trust it!! 😊😊😊
